Handmade Solid Bronze with polished finish and 1" clip back pin.
The historical model for this Viking dragon brooch is an image from the late Viking Age.
The dragon was considered a magical creature by the people of the Vikings. The Vikings knew the dragon Fafnir and the Midgard Serpent. In Asia, the dragon was considered a lucky charm and a symbol of fertility, while Christians considered the dragon to be the embodiment of evil.
Various magical powers were attributed to dragons, e.g. their blood could ward off injuries, eating a dragon's heart made one understand the language of the animals and eating a dragon's tongue could improve one's oratory.
The armies of the Romans and Germanic tribes went to war with dragon standards, which were intended to intimidate the enemy, and in the visual art of the Viking Age the dragon had a prominent position and was described in many sagas.
Dimensions: 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" in size. Clip back pin is soldered to the focal piece, NOT glued to assure sturdy construction.
This brooch is an exact historical replica of the original art piece! A beautiful authentic work of art for the person that appreciates history.
