The ancient Triquetra symbol, found in Ireland and Britain during the post-Roman era, is characterised by a Celtic interlace pattern. Early examples date to the 7th century, but became popular up until the 12th century in Ireland.
The traditional triquetra is mainly found in metalwork, illuminated manuscripts, and carved into stone slabs and Celtic Crosses. The best example of Celtic triquetra art is in the famous Book of Kells.
