Wear the Scottish pride!

2 1/4" x 1 3/4" solid pewter double thistle brooch with locking pin.

The Scottish Thistle has come a long way with its delicate flower heads, sharp thorns, and its defiant ability to flourish.

It is a resilient symbol which has always bloomed across Scotland's landscape, but it wasn't until the 13th century that it's placed in the country's symbolism.

Legend has it that the Norsemen attempted to surprise the Scots with a night attack. Taking off their footwear to ensure silence, they traveled across the thistle covered land. The resulting cries alarmed the Scots enabling them to drive off the Norse. Throughout Celtic regions, thistle represents bravery, devotion, durability, strength, and determination celebrated in this pewter pin.

This beautiful brooch honors the sacred place of the thistle in Celtic traditions. The Scottish thistle became a national symbol, with the motto "What dares meddle with me?"

PEWTER Made of solid lead free pewter.

Pewter has been used in jewelry making for pewter does NOT RUST OR TARNISH and will last a lifetime. Pewter was used for decorative metal items in the Ancient World by the Egyptians and later the Romans, and came into extensive use in Europe during the Middle Ages - it was once considered the metal of kings because of its beauty and expense!
