Description

Solid Golden Bronze

Replica of the Pitney brooch from the Viking Age, a filigree Anglo-Saxon disc brooch in the Urnes style.

This replica draws inspiration from the remarkable Viking artifact discovered in Pitney, Somerset, England. Dating to approximately 1050–1100, the Pitney brooch represents the concluding era of the Viking Age. The original piece is currently housed in the British Museum in London.

This famous Viking jewellery shows two fighting snakes in the Urnes style, which was typical for the late Viking Age. This motif symbolizes the perpetual struggle between forces, i.e. the eternal struggle of good and evil in the world.

Two different artistic styles merge in the Pitney brooch:The motif of the serpent on the brooch is clearly attributable to Viking art, while the shell rim and beaded serpentine line are Anglo-Saxon characteristics.

The Pitney brooch replica measures 2" x 2" and is made of high-quality bronze casting. On the back is a spring coil pin 1 1/4" long with a latch for secure wearing.
